Archibald Watson Wright was born in Glasgow on the 23rd November 1924, Archie was a footballer playing inside right. Archibald started his playing career at junior side Rutherglen Glencairn.
On June 1st 1947, Then Hamilton Academical manager Jimmy McStay signed Archie from Rutherglen Glencairn on his 1st professional contract for the equivalent of 50p per week. Archie would make 28 appearances and score 9 goals. He was on the move the following year.
Wright signed for Clyde on the 2nd August 1948 from Hamilton for £6000, it was expected that Archie would sign for Liverpool or Preston North End but at the 11th hour Clyde made their move and got their man. He would spend 2 years at Shawfield.
Falkirk manager Tully Craig signed Archie from Clyde on Wednesday 28th December 1949 for a fee of £5000. Archie would spend a year at Brockville before moving south of the border.
Wright signed for Blackburn Rovers along with Eddie Crossan and Jackie Wharton in May 1951, he would make 22 appearances scoring 10 goals for Blackburn before moving to Grimsby Town.
Grimsby Town Manager Bill Shankley signed Archie in July 1953, Not long after Shankley resigned citing lack of ambition from the board. Archie would leave at the end of the season also, he would join Accrington Stanley in June 1954. Archie would spend 3 years at Accrington before retiring from playing.
In 1962 Archie moved into management signing on at Broomfield Park, Airdrie. Archie spent 5 years at Airdrie before moving onto Clyde replacing John Prentice as Manager. After just one year at Shawfield. Wright was appointed Manager of Highland League team Ross County on the 18th June 1968.
Archibald would pass away in Airdrie on April 30th 1990 aged 65.
