Born on the 13th April 1920 in Glasgow Joseph Cadden was a centre-half who started his career with Shawfield Juniors (Shawfield were disbanded in 1960) and Glasgow welfare in 1938. With the outbreak of World War 2 I can’t find anything else on him until 1948.
In 1948 after being discharged from the army at the end of World War 2 Joe moved to Chicago, he started with the Chicago Maroons before moving across the states to New York with the Brooklyn Wanderers.
Joe would play for the New York Metropolitan All Stars against Liverpool on their US tour in June 1948. Joe made a massive impression on the Clubs management that after 15 months in the USA he would be back on home soil signing on at Anfield on the 12th June 1948.
Cadden would have to wait 2 years for his debut for Liverpool, on the 23rd September 1950 against Fulham, Joe would only make 5 appearances for Liverpool. John would move to Grimsby In July 1952. Signed by the legendary manager Bill Shankley Joe would play only once in the season before moving on to Accrington Stanley.
Again Joe would only spend one season at Stanley making 17 appearances before moving back North and joining Dumbarton. He would retire from football at the end of the season.
Joseph Young Cadden died in Liverpool on the 5th June 1981 aged 61.
